Herdís Stefánsdóttir is a composer of music for multimedia, a songwriter, and an electronic musician. Her compositional endeavours – installations in museums, dance, theatre, and a successful electronic music duet she is a part of – are establishing her as an expansive artist. Stefánsdóttir assisted Jóhann Jóhannsson in Berlin while he was working on the film Arrival in 2016, graduated with an M.A. in film scoring from New York University in 2017. Herdís scored her first Hollywood feature film in 2019, The Sun is Also a Star, and started 2020 with the release of HBO’s reality series We’re Here. Her latest score is for the series Y: The Last Man which premiered on FX on hulu in September 2021. She is currently working on the score for The Essex Serpent co-composed with Dustin O'Halloran for Apple TV+.
Herdís formed her electro-pop duet East of My Youth in 2015. East of My Youth’s music has been described as ‘sensual and addictive as getting your tongue frozen to a glacier of pure honey’ (jajaja music). The duo has showcased at SxSW, Eurosonic Noorderslag, KEXP, Sonar Reykjavík and Iceland Airwaves.
Born in Iceland, Herdís currently lives and works between Reykjavík and Los Angeles.
